Baseball Clinches No. 2 Spot in ACCC North
The Snead State baseball team clinched the No. 2 spot in the Alabama Community College Conference Northern Division with a 5-4 win over Calhoun Community College Thursday.
The Parsons grabbed the lead after a strong seventh inning. The Parsons scored on an RBI single by Dylan Calhoun, scoring Brett Burgess.
Caleb Mayo doubled in the third inning for Snead State and singled in the fifth inning.
David Collins got the win for the Parsons. He pitched three shutout innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered three hits.
Snead State closer Chris Kilpatrick put away the final three outs to record the save.
Snead State dropped game two of the series 11-4.
Reed Bright recorded the loss. He pitched four innings, walked one, struck out three and allowed five runs.
Three of Snead State’s runs came in the first inning. The Parsons scored on an error, a sacrifice fly by Andrew Tetrault and an RBI single by Trey Gibson. Snead State also tossed in a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Jesse Thomas.
The Parsons traveled to Calhoun for game three and four of the series.
The Parsons took game three 5-0. Brett Burgess collected four hits, singling in the first, second, sixth and ninth innings.
Landon Smith had six strikeouts during the game. He gave up just four hits over four shutout innings.
Snead State scored two runs in the first inning when they scored on an RBI double by Zachary Dugas and an RBI single by Andrew Tetrault.
The Parsons increased their lead with two runs in the second inning. A passed ball scored Cole Porter, followed by Brett’s single, bringing home Jackson Pruitt.
A thirteenth-inning single spelled defeat for Snead State during game four.
In the bottom of the thirteenth, with the score tied at two since the third inning, Calhoun was able to drive in the winning run to end the game.
Wes Runnells went 3-for-6 and scored one run for Snead State. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and twelfth innings.
Tyler Perkins allowed two earned runs, six hits and three walks while striking out four over 7 1/3 innings.
Colten Clifton took the loss for the Parsons. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out none and allowed one run.
The series against Calhoun ended the regular season for Snead State. The Parsons will now hit the road to Ozark for the ACCC State Tournament.
Snead State will take on the ACCC Central’s No. 3 seed Central Alabama Community College at 4 p.m. Friday.
The winner of the game will take on the ACCC South’s No. 1 seed Alabama Southern at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
