Baseball Set to Open at Home Feb. 2

The Snead State baseball team will open its 2017 season on Feb. 2 at home against Columbia State.

Coach Gerry Ledbetter is entering his 25th season as the Parsons’ leader.

“We want to develop winners in the classroom and on the field,” said Coach Ledbetter. “We want to see all of our sophomores graduate, return to the state tournament and finish in the top five in the ACCC.

Five players finished the fall semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average – Christian Leonard of Boaz, Ridge Watson of Arab, Jordan Nelson of Elkmont, Jacob Coker of Southside and Nathan Doss of Cullman.

Last year, the team had seven Academic All-Americans. The team was also named an Academic All-American team for 2015-2016.

“If you work hard in the classroom, baseball will take care of itself,” said Coach Ledbetter. “We want to be named an Academic All-American team for the third year in a row.”

Returning to the team this year is Associate Head Coach Casey Underwood and Assistant Coach Jerry Wayne Hallmark. Former Parson baseball player Parker Madden has joined the team as an assistant coach.

The team faces a tough schedule this season that includes a series on the road in New Orleans to take on nationally-ranked Delgado College in April. Conference season will start in March.
