Snead State Adds Eight to Team

The Snead State Community College baseball program and head coach Gerry Ledbetter announced the addition of eight student-athletes to join the squad for the 2016-2017 academic year.

“We have been able to sign some good, high-character players that have proven to be successful on the field and in the classroom. We are excited to add these eight young men to our program,” said Coach Ledbetter.

Name: Kaylib Hanson
Position: Catcher
High School: Boaz (Boaz, AL)

Ledbetter on Hanson: “Kaylib is a local player who is familiar with our program. He’s a good catcher and hitter. He will continue to get better. He hit .353 last season with 30 hits, 35 RBIs and six home runs.”

Name: Joel Cheatwood
Position: Infielder/Pitcher
High School: Chelsea (Chelsea, AL)

Ledbetter on Cheatwood: “Joel is a very good middle infielder with a good arm. He’ll also be a big help on the mound. He batted .320 last season and had a 2.18 ERA.”

Name: Devin Freeman
Position: Infielder/Pitcher
High School: Etowah (Attalla, AL)

Ledbetter on Freeman: “Devin is a power pitcher with lots of gap to gap power as a hitter. He’s also a first baseman.  He batted .342 in 2015 and had 35 RBIs and two home runs.”

Name: Riley Shaw
Position: Infielder
High School: Alexandria (Alexandria, AL)

Ledbetter on Shaw: “Riley batted .333 last season and had 34 hits and 21 RBIs. He’s a coach’s son and knows the game very well. He will be a leader for us. He also plays football and basketball.”

Name: Jacob Heathcock
Position: Catcher/Pitcher
High School: Alexandria (Wellington, AL)

Ledbetter on Heathcock: “Jacob is a big, strong kid. He’s a very good defensive catcher and can also pitch. He batted .242 last season with 16 hits and 17 RBIs.”

Name: Matthew Mullinax
Position: Infielder
High School: Calhoun (Calhoun, GA)

Ledbetter on Mullinax: “Matthew played Double Day Baseball in Rome, Ga. He batted .347 last year with a .642 slugging percentage. He had 22 RBIs and five home runs. He was named to the All-Region Second Team, Perfect Game All-Tournament Team and Perfect Game Top Prospect.”

Name: Amos Willingham
Position: Pitcher
High School: Chattooga (Summerville, GA)

Ledbetter on Willingham: “Amos played Double Day Baseball in Rome, Ga. He’s a big, strong pitcher with lots of up-side. He had a 2.06 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 43 innings last season. He was named to the All-Region First Team, Perfect Game Pre-Season Team and received All-American honorable mention.”

Name: Jonathan Inman
Position: Infielder/Pitcher
High School: Bloomington North (Bloomington, IN)

Ledbetter on Inman: “Jonathan has a lot of potential.  He’s a good hitter with a great arm. He’s also a good defensive player. He batted .362 last season with 16 RBIs. ”
