Snead State Choirs Perform in the Renowned Carnegie Hall
A recent trip to the renowned Carnegie Hall in New York was a first for many of the members of the Community and Concert Choirs at Snead State Community College, but it was one they won’t soon forget.
The group of adults and students traveled over the Memorial Day weekend to perform in the Manhattan Concert Productions Two-Year College Choral Festival at Carnegie Hall. Snead State Music Program Chair Dr. Barbara Hudson led the group in preparing for the performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria prior to the trip, and the actual performance and rehearsals during the trip were directed by guest conductor Duane Davis.
During the performance, the group was accompanied by the New York City Chamber Ensemble. Snead State’s choirs were joined by other college choirs such as Shelton State Community College in Birmingham and colleges from Minnesota and New York.
“They did a wonderful job,” said Dr. Hudson. “They earned a standing ovation from a nearly packed house.”
The Snead State choirs participated in three days of intense rehearsals to prepare for the event. When they weren’t rehearsing, the Snead group had the opportunity to sight-see in Manhattan’s Times Square and attend a Broadway show.
The Snead State choirs began preparing for this trip in August 2018 with fundraisers and in the fall 2018 with music preparation.
“It was a memorable experience for everyone who participated. Many new friendships were formed, and many wonderful new memories made,” said Dr. Hudson.
