Snead State Clinches No. 3 Spot
In its best finish ever, the Snead State softball team has clinched the no. 3 seed in the Alabama Community College Conference’s northern division.
Snead State will take on the ACCC South’s no. 6 seed, Jefferson Davis Community College, Friday at 10 a.m. The ACCC Tournament is being held at Veterans Park in Alabaster Friday-Sunday. Twelve of the sixteen teams in the conference advance to the tournament.
The Lady Parsons finished the regular season 28-31 and 17-11 in conference play. The 28 wins is a new program record for Snead State. They are batting .326 with 104 doubles and 46 Home runs.
Geraldine’s Marissa Hancock is leading the conference in homeruns with 18. The sophomore is no. 2 in the league in RBIs with 63 and no. 4 in batting average at .452. Marissa is currently 11th in the nation in home runs.
Sophomore Audrey Glitzer of Douglas batting .390, also leads the conference in stolen bases with 37. She is also tied for 19th in the nation for stolen bases.
Others contributing to the team success are sophomore catcher Shannon Summers (Sparkman), batting .358 with 42 RBIs, Christy Hendrix (Hueytown) .323 with 15 doubles, freshmen Courtney Blevins (Ider) hitting .386, Mallory Walker (West point) hitting .371, Madison Cantrell (Albertville) hitting .331 and Anna Leigh Mitchell (Austin) hitting .353 with a team leading 18 doubles.
This is Coach Tracy Grindrod’s third season with the Lady Parsons. Under his leadership, the Lady Parsons have made the ACCC Tournament twice.
