Snead State Hosts Veterans Cookout


The Snead State Veteran Organization and Community will host a Veterans Serving Veterans Cookout on Nov. 3 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

SVOC will be honoring all current and former military men and women in the community and serving them free hamburgers.

Non-military students, faculty and community members are encouraged to also attend the event and bring a $5 donation to support SVOC or donate care package items. Care package items will be send to Boaz native Elisha Duncan’s deployed unit.

Care package items include baby wipes, soap, chewing gum, nonperishable snacks and meals, DVDs, razors, socks and chap stick.

The cookout will take place in the gazebo area behind the Administration Building.

SVOC is Snead State’s newest student organization. SVOC seeks to provide a safe environment for veterans and their dependents to interact with their peers, to encourage the completion of an Associate’s degree among members and to foster and facilitate learning outside of the classroom through leadership and community service opportunities.

Membership into SVOC is open to the following students: Students must be a veteran, reservist or member of a branch of the U.S. Military or must be a direct dependent (child, spouse, etc.) of a veteran, reservist or member of a branch of the U.S. Military.
