Snead State Music and Theater Students, Faculty Attend Performance of Birmingham Opera

Snead State Community College students and faculty attended a recent production by Opera Birmingham that included a SSCC student in the chorus.

Voice student David Wooten of Henagar participated in the chorus of Opera Birmingham’s production of “La Traviata” on Jan. 22 and 24. The chorus role was an auditioned position Wooten won, and he worked in rehearsals with the professional opera company since November.

“It was quite an honor for him to have been chosen to sing in the production as an undergraduate music major,” said SSCC Music Program Director Dr. Barbara Hudson, Wooten’s voice instructor.

Hudson attended the performance with other Snead faculty, Dr. Steven DiBlasi (music instructor), Grover Kitchens (history/political science instructor), and Tina Gockel (theater instructor). Students attending included Aaron Holcomb of Boaz, Dominic Kochler, Ryan Brooks of Boaz, Jessica Brown of Albertville, Annie Kelley of Attalla, Chelnessa Kochler, and Ulises Rios of Boaz.
