Snead State Community College’s Associate Dean for Online Learning is bringing his wealth of experience out of the classroom into his new role.

As the Associate Dean for Online Learning, Mr. Gibson will rely on his more than 20 years of higher education teaching experience – 16 of which involved online education – to help the College continue to improve and grow its online learning offerings.

“I attended a training workshop at the Boaz campus a few years ago, and I was very impressed with Snead State’s faculty and staff. Their focus on student success is what attracted me to this position,” said Mr. Gibson.

Mr. Gibson came to Snead State from Calhoun Community College where he served as Chair of the Computer Information Systems Department and as an Instructor. Prior to that he worked at Athens State University for five years in multiple roles, including Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems and Director of the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Systems. While at Athens State, he also founded the Alabama Consortium for Technology & Learning (alactl.org).

He is a product of the Alabama Community College System, having earned his Associate of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Calhoun Community College. Mr. Gibson also holds both a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Management from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). He has completed additional graduate coursework at The University of Alabama and Northcentral University.

“I am excited to have Michael Gibson as part of the Snead State family. He brings with him a wealth of experience in distance education, and I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our online programs,” said Dr. Annette Cederholm, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Born and raised in Morgan County, Mr. Gibson graduated from Hartselle High School. He is married to Ryan Cate Gibson, who is employed with UAH and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Reading & Literacy at Alabama A&M.

The Gibsons have one son, Jonathan, who is 18 years old and pursuing his welding certification from Tennessee College of Applied Technology. They live in Decatur but plan to relocate to the Guntersville area in 2017. Mr. and Mrs. Gibson are avid USTA tennis players and are looking forward to supporting the Lady Parsons tennis team.
