Norton Museum
The Norton building was built in 1940 as the campus library. The building
was named for Mr. W. W. Norton, a generous benefactor of Snead.
In 1986, Dr. William Osborn announced plans to convert the Norton Library building
into a museum for housing artifacts and historical data. The museum
was dedicated May 2, 1986.
The museum houses a wealth of historical information on Snead and
the surronding area. Pictures, scrapbooks, and other memorabilia catalog Snead from its beginnings in the E.B.L. Elder home to its current status as a state community college.
The museum is also home to an extensive collection of gospel music memorabilia
and a collection of fossils, rocks, and Native American artifacts in the Preston Watts Natural Science Division.
For more information on the Norton Museum, contact Nell Morris,
Museum Curator, at 256.593.5120 or 840.4158.
Alumni War Memorial
During Homecoming of 2001, the Alumni Association decided to a memorial be erected on the left side of the front entrance to Norton Museum.
The memborial is dedicated to those alumni who gave their lives during wartime in defense of our country or who died of injuries received during that period.
