Graduation FAQ’s

  1. When should I apply for graduation? You should apply for graduation at the beginning of the semester prior to the one you expect to complete (i.e. If you plan to finish requirements in the spring, you should apply at the beginning of the fall semester).  This allows us to evaluate your records and make sure that you are on track to finish requirements.
  2. Where do I get an Application for a Certificate or Degree? You can open it here, Application for Certificate or Degree, or you can get one in the Student Services Office located on the top floor of the McCain Student Success and Career Center.  Completed, signed applications may be scanned and submitted online to dseabrook@snead.edu or they may be faxed to 256-593-7180.
  3. If I fill out an Application for a Certificate or Degree, does that mean that I have to participate in the Commencement Ceremony? No. Although we would love to have everyone participate in Commencement, we realize that some may wish not to or have prior commitments that prevent them from attending.  If you do not participate in the Commencement Ceremony held annually in May, your diploma will be mailed to you.  It usually takes approximately 5 weeks to receive your diploma in the mail.  You should make sure that we have your correct mailing address on your Application for Graduation.
  4. How will I know what I still need to finish my requirements? After you submit your Application for Graduation, you will receive a letter detailing the requirements that you still lack.  The letter will include classes that you are currently registered for because you have not completed them yet.  You should use this letter as a checklist for your remaining requirements.  If you have questions about your letter, you may contact Lesley Kubik at lkubik@snead.edu or 256-840-4219.
  5. Can I complete two degrees at the same time? No.  State policies prohibit Snead State from awarding two degrees at the same time.  After you complete your first degree, you would need to complete 16 additional hours and complete the requirements for the second degree.
  6. If I finish my degree during the summer or fall terms, how will I receive my diploma? Your diploma will be mailed to you.  It usually takes approximately 5 weeks after grades are submitted to receive your diploma in the mail.  You should make sure that we have your correct mailing address on your Application for Graduation.
