The Academic Advisement Office at Snead State Community College , located in the Student Union Building, offers a wide range of services to students. An Academic Advisor is available throughout the semester to assist students with academic counseling.
Up-to-date information on Snead State 's courses of study and programs of study at all major Alabama universities is available in the Academic Advisement Office. Occupational Outlook Handbooks, career books, college directories, college catalogs, and other career-related material are available. Each new student is presented with a program of study guide to follow while at Snead State . Transfer students are given a STARS guide, and applied science degree students are given the College Catalog to follow.
Each student is assigned an advising group by the student services staff according to major. Entering students are required to meet with their assigned academic advisors prior to registering for classes for the desired term of enrollment. Students are also required to meet with their assigned academic advisors each term prior to registering for classes for the upcoming term. However, students are encouraged to meet with assigned advisors, by appointment, as needed throughout the semester. Scheduling appointments and meeting with assigned academic advisors during the Advisement Period , which precedes final exams each term, coincides with advance online registration. At the advisement appointment, the student and advisor will review program requirements, monitor the student's academic progress and needs, and complete registration. Students who do not meet with their assigned advisors during the Advisement Period will not be able to take advantage of Advance Online Registration . Academic advisors and/or program representatives are available to students the day of scheduled Regular Registration.
A student who wishes to make a program of study/major change must complete necessary paperwork in the Academic Advisement Office and receive an appropriate advisor assignment.
The Statewide Articulation Reporting System (STARS) is a computerized articulation and transfer planning system designed to inform students who attend Alabama community colleges about degree requirements, course equivalents, and other transfer information pertaining to specific majors at each state-funded or assisted four-year College. It is through this system that a student can obtain an Alabama Articulation and General Studies Committee approved Articulation/Transfer Guide and Agreement. This Articulation/Transfer Guide and Agreement guarantees the transferability of the course work listed within the guide among Colleges of higher education in the state of Alabama . Students knowing the specific Alabama College to which they plan to transfer should access the AGSC/STARS Home Page at http://stars.troyst.edu and obtain a guide and agreement for the major they intend to pursue. The STARS database, if used properly, can prevent the loss of course credit hours, can provide direction for the scheduling of course work, and can ease the transition from one College to another. More information about the STARS Program may be obtained from
