Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of students at Snead State Community College. Its purpose is to promote the general welfare of students, to cultivate friendship and cooperation among the students and faculty, and to encourage participation in individual and group responsibilities in a democratic atmosphere. All persons registered at Snead State Community College may be members of this organization and are encouraged to take an active part in its function.

Ambassadors
The Snead State Ambassadors is a service organization that assists school groups with projects that require contact with off-campus visitors. The Ambassadors, a vital part of Snead State’s activity program, assist with such events as Counselors Day, High School Scholars Bowl, Homecoming, campus tours, graduation, and College Day. Membership is limited to those selected by a screening process. Ambassadors must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, and their conduct must be above reproach.

College Bowl
The College Bowl team of Snead State Community College competes in the academic-type contests held among various community, junior, and senior colleges each year. Team members are selected through a competitive screening process in the fall semester.

Snead State’s College Bowl teams have enjoyed wide success and in the past were State Champions in the Alabama Junior College contest.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL)
Students interested in the fields of business and economics are encouraged to join this club. The purposes of this organization are to develop competent, aggressive business leadership and to create more interest and understanding in the intelligent choice of business occupations. Membership in PBL is unified on the local, State, and national levels and is not available separately.

Phi Theta Kappa (PTK)
The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa attempts to provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. To be eligible for membership in Theta Iota chapter, a student must have completed at least 12 semester hours and must have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75. Remedial courses or courses below 100 level are excluded when number of hours and grade point average are determined. Induction is held in the fall and each spring semesters.

President's Council
The President’s Council, a student advisory group to the President of the College, coordinates club activities, works closely with SGA in implementing SGA policy, and serves as a channel of communication for student problems and suggestions. Membership consists of the president of each campus organization, a member of the Student Committee, and the SGA advisor.

SkillsUSA
SkillsUSA prepares America’s high performance workers. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes, and communication skills. It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.

Snead State Agricultural Organization (SAO)
The purposes of the Snead State Agricultural Organization are to develop leadership and management abilities in agriculture/agribusiness; to assist the individual in making an occupational choice; to develop character, citizenship, and patriotism; and to know and meet the needs of industry through agricultural education. Membership is open to anyone who declares an interest in agriculture and/or agriculture-related fields.

Snead State Accounting Club
The purpose of the Snead State Accounting Club is to promote awareness, as well as to enrich the educational experience beyond the classroom, to the students, faculty, and public, about the accounting profession. The organization intends to provide a meaningful contribution to the College and surrounding community, offer leadership opportunities to all members, and support unity among the students with an interest in accounting. Membership is open to students interested in the field of accounting, regardless of their declared degree.

Snead State Art Guild
The purpose of the Snead State Art Guild is to promote the fine arts among the Snead State student body and the surrounding community. This undertaking includes the encouragement of individual artistic endeavors, participation in the fine arts, and a general appreciation of the arts in an atmosphere that promotes friendship and cooperation among the student body and faculty. All persons registered at Snead State Community College are eligible for membership in this organization.

Snead State Collegiate Chapter of the MENC: The National Association for Music Education
The purposes of CMENC are to make available to members opportunities for professional development; to acquaint students with privileges and responsibilities of the music education profession; and to provide all members with the opportunity to become acquainted with leaders in the music education profession through participation in various activities planned by the chapter, the state music educators association, and the National Association for Music Education. The organization will also assist the College in various projects throughout the year and provide members the opportunity to have contact with collegiate members from other schools. Membership is open to any student enrolled at Snead State Community College who is interested in teaching music and who is not employed full-time in the field of music education.

Snead State Science and Engineering Club
The purpose of the Snead State Science and Engineering Club is to promote awareness, as well as to enrich the educational experience beyond the classroom, to the students, faculty, and public, about science and engineering professions. The organization intends to provide a meaningful contribution to the College and surrounding community, offer leadership opportunities to all members, and support unity among the students with an interest in science or engineering. Membership is open to students interested in science or engineering.

Snead State Mu Alpha Theta Club
The purpose of the Snead State Mu Alpha Theta Club is to promote awareness, as well as to enrich the educational experience beyond the classroom, to the students, faculty, and public about mathematics professions. The Snead State Mu Alpha Theta Club intends to provide a meaningful contribution to the College and surrounding community, offer leadership opportunities to all members, and support unity among the students with an interest in mathematics.

Membership is open to students who are enrolled full-time at Snead State Community College and who have completed at least one semester of mathematics at the MTH 110, Finite Mathematics level, or higher. The student must also maintain a B average in these mathematics courses. Any student who was a member of a Mu Alpha Theta chapter in high school may become a member immediately.

Snead State Student Chapter of International Association of Administrative Professionals
The purpose of IAAP is to promote awareness, as well as to enrich the educational experience beyond the classroom, to the students, faculty, and public, about the office administration profession. The organization intends to provide a meaningful contribution to the College and surrounding community, offer leadership opportunities to all members, and support unity among the students with an interest in office administration. Membership is open to students who are enrolled in office administration or a related field.

SSCC Campus Civitan Club
The Campus Civitan Club is a service organization tailored specifically to provide opportunities for volunteer service. There are many rewards, such as personal development, leadership skills, career opportunities, community service, and fellowship. Any student, faculty member, or administrator may become a member. The club officers are elected annually. Former Junior Civitan members are encouraged to continue their volunteer service by joining the campus club.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is an organization that creates “awareness” of alchohol and substance abuse by initiating campus and community service activities that focus on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and offer alternatives to destructive decisions that will provide a positive college experience. SADD's mission is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with these serious issues and to help build the student's confidence in a way that results in healthy choices.

Student Nurses Association
The purpose of the Student Nurses Association is to organize, represent and mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses; to promote development of skills needed be responsible and accountable members of the nursing profession; and to advocate high quality health care.

Students who are actively enrolled in the Snead State Nursing Program, as well s those enrolled in baccalaureate completion programs are encouraged to join the Student Nurses' Association as well as The National Student Nurses' Association (NSNA). Involvement in the NSNA prepares students for involvement in professional associations upon graduation.

Students who join the Snead State Nurses' Association are enabled to make professional contacts, have the opportunity to network with people who can impact the nursing profession and give the student access to new opportunities, friends, jobs, and information.
